After the doctor appointment

I took a walk, shuffling along, weighed down by the Super Bowl ring I won a long time ago.

The doctor said it could be arthritis in my right knee, or an inflammation of my I T band. It's also possible I might need a knee replacement. He ordered x-rays.

I'll know in a couple of days just what I'll have to do next with my physical body.

In the meantime I shuffle along the street, fenced in by my own shadow, imagining what it might be like to set up a homeless shelter at 16th and Mission on a bitterly cold night in late December.
